The Staffordshire County Constabulary was formed in 1842 with the appointment of John Hayes Hatton as chief constable.
Following the introduction of the 1930 road traffic act, the motor transport and patrol branch was established at Stafford with three Austin tourers. The branch was quickly extended with patrol cars at headquarters and at each divisional station.
This model with an original registration number is of the type of police model in the 1920's to convey police officers around the county.
